Severe Weather Alerts is a very small and simple application that notifies you when an alert for severe weather is emitted for your location by the National Weather Service. It alerts you when the NWS forecasts that storm or other kinds of threatening weather are heading your way.
This tool is very neat and simple. It’s so simple that it resembles a desktop widget. Unfortunately, it also lacks a lot of options that could have been otherwise pretty useful. For example, its location on your desktop cannot be changed. Its window will always be displayed in the lower right corner of your desktop, right above the tray area, and you can only accept this fact. Its interface also cannot be resized or customized in any way.
A good thing about this neat little tool is the fact that it automatically detects your location based on your IP address. If your IP address is not accurately pointing your current location, you can set the correct location by providing the right ZIP code. The application will restart and provide the severe weather forecast for the entered location.
In the end, this is a nice tool if you are preoccupied by the threat of severe weather on your location. It’s neat, simple and, best of all, free.
